Stop the screen locking: iPad: Settings → Display & Brightness → Auto-Lock → Never (easiest while it’s plugged in). Android: Settings → Display → Screen timeout. Left awake on the side, the tablet drifts into their photos on its own after a minute, so it invites them over instead of waiting to be picked up.

Make it a routine: the same time each day works wonders, with a cup of tea after breakfast, or in the good hour the trends show. Familiar rhythm is half the comfort.

While you're on an ordinary phone call, someone far away can follow along and gently suggest games. They see only which screen is open and where taps land, never the photos, and nothing is stored anywhere. The session ends the moment you end it.
